When we bought the house, it was called "The Sunripple Cottage" because our front windows had an antique ripple glass which I guess gave the view outside somewhat...rippling. I suppose you could simulate that same effect today with modern double pane windows and a couple cans of beer.
Day one started by wrapping the front yard in a chain link security fence. Primarily to keep tools and the house safe as it is being torn open. This of course was an immediate hit with our neighbors on both sides. We can also boast that we added a another bathroom to our house!
Hmmm! What a great idea for a movie!
View from the backyard - first thing to go was the redwood deck. In all the years of owning the deck - I don't believe we even really sat out on it more than 3-4 times. We had a kid magician use it once. Boys would use the deck as a place to hold their nerf battles. But other than that - we never just laid out and relaxed on it. So it was somewhat wasted space.
There goes the water tank.
Looking out from our bedroom - enjoying the view over a cup of coffee.
One victim of the new project was the Tangerine and Lime trees. Both were unfortunately sickly and not long for this world. We kept some seeds from the Tangerine tree and hope to possibly regrow some young sprouts.
Back view of the office/guest house - the workers have started by stripping off all the wood siding. For those of you looking for more destruction - don't worry - it will get much much worse!
Close up of the Office - you can still see Sheryl's original curtains hanging in the window. Might be good Ebay fodder.
Interior of the Office/Guest House. While it might look nice and rustlic, the main drawback to the dark wood was it simply absorbed all the light in the nearby dimension. This shot was taken in the daylight -with a flash- and I still had to lighten it up in PhotoShop!! For those of you familiar with the way my office looked prior to this - you probably are struck how clean it is now!
This ends Day One. While it looks pretty drastic - it pales in comparison to Day Two!!
The fun has only yet to begin Scott.
ReplyDeleteDear Scott and Sheryl, Thank you so much for the walk down memory lane. For all the 32 years we lived there I drew floorplans of how I would have remodeled it. You two did an awsome job. That lovely old house happily sheltered our daughters and later our grandchildren when they came to visit. There is just something about it. It sounds as though it's magic continues. My goodness three sons, you have a lovely family. We wish for you and your sons, all things wonderful. Warmest personal regards, Barbara Sullivan "SUNRIPPLE"
